  During his fellowship (8 months) Czeslaw Walek will concentrate on both, development of civil society in the Czech Republic and improvement of his own theoretical and practical knowledge that he will utilize in his future engagement.

There are three objectives that Czeslaw Walek will concentrate on during fellowship:

•  Develop a new foundation concentrating on human rights protection, with long-term, endowment-based sustainability;
• Reinforce LGBTI movement in the Czech Republic, by way of coordinating some of the projects and securing financial schemes for LGBTI groups and initiatives;
•  Personal development: improved personal capacity to tackle poverty problem in the Czech Republic by way of studying fight against poverty and social exclusion in Spain.

This project is a fellowship request for one person from Sdružení VIA, Czech Republic who was invited by the TechSoup Global to participate in “Contributors’ Summit”, an event that will be held at Microsoft’s Silicon Valley, California campus and will bring two hundred and forty representatives of TechSoup’s various networks and their affinity groups (funders, corporate donors, social media experts, capacity-building organizations and other social change technologists). Its main goals are:

• Reposition TechSoup Global as a capabilities platform, a broader definition than delivery platform
• Knit the networks together
• Inspire participants to create specific solutions that leverage and extend the networks’ capabilities.

Michal Staša is the winner of the competition organized by CEE Trust as a part of Civil Society Forum Project. Awarded scholarship will be used for the aims of his studies at the Civil Society Studies Department at Charles University in Prague.

This sabbatical fellowship project aims at gaining more structured and scientific knowledge and experience that will help the applicant and its organization – People in Need – to strengthen its position as a leader in the field of democracy promotion and development. The six-month grant will enable the applicant to: study democratic assistance and political science literature, start a research project on assisting democrats in authoritarian/transitional countries, stage regular screening of human rights films, get firsthand knowledge about US democratic assistance and human rights organizations when travel to Washington and New York.

Support for the Grantee’s participation in the Executive Education Program “Strategic management for Leaders of NGOs” organized in Athens.

Covering the expenses of the Grantee’s participation in 53rd session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women taking place in New York.

Covering the expenses of Jiří Bárta’s participation in the annual Grantmakers East Forum “ENGAGE” organized by European Foundation Centre in Dubrownik, Croatia.

Support for Jitka Nesrstova’s participation in AGA meeting organized by European Foundation Centre in Istanbul.

Support for Pavlína Kalousová’s participation in AGA meeting organized by European Foundation Centre in Istanbul.

Support for Tomas Krejci’s participation in AGA meeting organized by European Foundation Centre in Istanbul.

This six-month educational program should provide a group of Czech NGO leaders with a combination of courses at a US university and internship in a US non-profit organization working on similar problems as their home Czech NGO. Monthly stipend and travel allowance should be complemented by a book allowance.
