The Trust for Civil Society in Central & Eastern Europe (CEE Trust) announces a thematic Call for Proposals in Poland titled: “Agenda for Modern Societies”.
“Stability in the twenty-first century will only be achieved when trust is established between citizens and their states across the globe. Decades of persistent conflict have exposed millions of people to insecurity, loss of opportunity and increased risk of falling into poverty. Failure or fragility of the state has been at the heart of this crisis of governance and human rights violations.[1]
The CEE Trust is seeking cross-sectoral projects[2] that will be focused on the challenges of the modern age.
The submitted Project should promote the development of knowledge and practical tools addressing essential challenges to governance on different territorial levels with a special focus on the regional dimension of Poland. The applications should address the following challenges:
1. Rule of law;
2. Transparency;
3. Accountability of the state/ responsiveness;
4. Civic Participation;
5. Social inclusion;
6. Effectiveness of public institutions.
The CEE Trust is inviting interested and qualified non-profit, non-governmental organizations, expert groups, coalitions and educational institutions, i.e. universities to submit Project Application Form and Letters of Intent describing how the Applicants are aiming to:
1. Create an interdisciplinary team(s) involving i.e. economy, law, sociology, psychology, demography and architecture, etc.;
2. Develop the diagnosis of the targeted society/region by pointing out the main social needs and trends;
3. Develop local partnerships with local authorities and NGOs by securing access to information and practical implementation/application of diagnosis and its recommendations;[3]
4. Mainstreaming and promotion of the diagnosis and project within the society/region and among its key actors (business, local authorities and educational institutions).
Letters of Intent should be clearly related to the mission and objectives of the CEE Trust.
The CEE Trust would strongly encourage coalitions of representatives of educational institutions and non-profit and non-governmental institutions to submit applications.
All applications are expected to be both intellectually challenging in their diagnosis of problems and practically innovative with regard to proposed measures.
The duration of project implementation should not exceed one year.
The CEE Trust is planning to select up to 5 projects from various regions of Poland and award grants that will allow Applicants to work.
The CEE Trust reserves the right to accept or reject any or all Letters of Intent and will notify all applicants of the outcome of the assessment. Selected Applicants will be invited to meet with CEE Trust representatives and the Advisory Committee. The goal of the meeting will be to present the framework of Applicants’ work on the Full Applications (2nd stage of the Call for Proposals).
Letters of Intent and Project Application Forms must be submitted electronically (via e-mail only) no later than November 3, 2008, to the following address:
