Recently, the Slovak-Czech Women’s Fund decided to interconnect two major anniversaries – 20 years of free civil society in Slovakia, and women’s organizations as its integral part, and five years of its existence – into the Project Superženy and a travelling exhibition entitled “There was only one Superman – there are many superwomen. 20 years of women’s activism in Slovakia.”

The project aimed at informing the wide public about the diverse activities for public benefit as they have been realized by women’s non-governmental organizations and about successes they reached over the past 20 years. This unique project was realized via a 10-day-long exhibition in four cities (Banská Bystrica, Prešov, Nitra and Bratislava) in three Slovak regions, as well as via the virtual space on the website www.superzeny.sk, and its support group on Facebook. The exhibition presents portraits of 25 activists from 14 women’s non-governmental organizations and 14 major successes of women’s activism in Slovakia in various spheres – gender equality, right for free choice, fighting gender stereotypes, violence against women, human rights of various groups of women – mothers, Roma women or lesbians. Exhibitions were held in shopping malls in cities listed above and their openings were accompanied by public events prepared by grantee organizations based in a given city- happening, theatre, concert, screening of films about women’s rights, discussions with activists.
