The Local Government and Public Service Reform Initiative (LGI) was launched in January 1997 by the Board of the Open Society Institute-Budapest. Its mission is to promote democratic and effective governance throughout Central and Eastern Europe, the former Soviet Republics and beyond. Through support of policy development projects, LGI seeks to promote more effective public administration. Based on its accumulated knowledge, expertise and established professional networks, LGI is able to actively contribute to policy design and implementation.

By the end of February, LGI announced a Call for Proposals for its multi-year "Policy Development Program" by inviting expert groups and institutions to work on major public policy projects. Policy development should cover policy analysis, design, active campaign and advocacy in countries from the eligible regions.

The deadline for submission of applications is April 15, 2006.
